The Blue Light Special is BACK!

This is a sponsored post. I thought you should know.

Think back to when you wore knee socks and those yarn strings in your hair. Do you remember being in Kmart with your mom, only to hear:

Attention Kmart Shoppers. We have a sale on potted plants on aisle 6.

Doesn’t the memory bring you goosebumps?? Well the Kmart Bluelight Specials are back, for one day only: July 25 (yes, tomorrow). Just like in the old days, they’ll have more than 40 Blue Light specials throughout the store. They’ve got jewelry, grills, patio stuff, etc all on sale. I need patio furniture and kids’ clothes, so I may have to drive to Little Rock to get it cheap at Kmart. They also have specials on Kmart.com (and who am I kidding? I’d rather shop online).

Since I’m furnishing an entire house and trying not to spend a lot on it, the idea of getting great deals at Kmart is awesome. I’ve been toying with the idea of decorating the back yard with paper lanterns and getting an umbrella for my $5 patio table, along with some chairs, so I’ll put them on my Kmart list!

Follow @kmartdealsnnews on Twitter to see what sales they have, then rush to your Kmart to shop and save!

I love that they’re using Twitter (you know I’m a big fan).

I Heart Coffee

This is a sponsored post. I thought you should know.

I used to hate coffee. I mean, hate it. The way I hate beer now. But my bestest friend doctored some up with lots of milk and sugar, and well, I am a convert and have been for 10 years.

I’m not a coffee snob. I mean, I don’t like gas station coffee (unless it’s 7 11) but it’s pretty easy to impress me. Some of my favorite coffee is good and rich, maybe with some chicory thrown in (after all, ya’ll, I am Cajun).

So this post is a review of CoffeeforLess.com, a website that sells all kinds of coffee. Living now in Arkansas, I may be forced to order good coffee online as the selection is lower than what I’m used to.

The site sells ground coffee, coffee beans, hot chocolate, tea, and pods to fit different types of coffee makers (Sigh. I miss my Senseo coffee maker). I think the site is geared more toward offices who would be buying coffee in bulk, since I can’t justify spending $50 for 5 pounds of coffee at a time. They also sell paper goods and water coolers. Another clue it’s for offices. Given that I work out of my home and by myself, well, let’s just say I won’t be needing a water cooler.

They do have a Coffee of the Month Club, which would make a fantastic Christmas or Birthday present (for me. Hint Hint).

I like that shipping is just $5.95, and it’s free over $50 (which seems easy to spend here). All in all, it’s a good site, and if you either are a coffee monster or buying for an office, it’s worth checking out and saving some money.

Never Doubt a Farmer

In an effort to not leave my child in front of the television all day every day, I’m taking Max on little adventures around Hot Springs. We made a list together of places to go. The other day we went blackberry and peach picking in Donaldson, Arkansas. Where? Exactly. This place was so far in BFE, even Google got it wrong. I had to call for directions.

When we got there, I said to the farmer, “Boy, you weren’t kidding about being out in the woods!”

He looked perplexed, “We’re just off the main road.”

Uh, yea. Off the main road, then off that road, down another road, and then down an endless dirt road. Please don’t kill us while we’re out here. No one will hear us scream.

Anyway, we picked blackberries. Or rather, after the first bug jumped out at us, I picked blackberries and Max held the bucket. There’s nothing more sublime than eating fruit right off the vine.

When we headed to the peach orchard, I looked up at the darkening sky. A chilly breeze ruffled our hair (well, mine. Max had a buzzcut recently). I knew that breeze foretold rain in the immediate forecast. We rushed back to the fruit stand.

When I told the farmer it looked like rain, he said, “Naw, it’ll pass right by us.”

Um, hello? I”m not an idiot. I can clearly see that black mass of ithsmus…or is it cumulus…clouds lurking overhead. Stupid farmer. What does he know?

Did I mention I have a horrible need to be right all the time??

We paid for our fruit (what a steal at $6) and rushed down the dirt road, which somehow got shorter going back. I wanted to get out of there before the torrential downpour hit.

Guess what? It never rained. It passed right by.

Moral of the story? Never doubt a farmer.
