It’s My Birrrrrthday!

Today I turn 32. Not a milestone, but I still like to feel like a queen today. Max doesn’t understand why we’re not having a party (we had one last week). My husband’s birthday was yesterday. It’s kinda cool to practically share a birthday and celebrate it in one fell swoop. He’s 364 days older than me so he can always test the waters and tell me what the next year looks like.

He got me a Wonder Woman bracelet that looks like this:

He said to wear it when I needed a little extra strength. I will. I love Wonder Woman. I should write about that one day.

At any rate, it’s going to be a fun day. We’re going to Oktoberfest and then the documentary film festival and dinner. And it’s all about me.

Gearing Up for my Avocado Party

So I found this site called HouseParty.com that lets you host parties around a theme (a brand or other product they want you to help promote.) My first time there I saw they wanted people to host parties for Avocadoes from Mexico. I love avocadoes. Right up my alley!

The site lets you invite people and they send you a party in a box with stuff to hand out and a small gift card to buy supplies; in my case, avocadoes.

The party is tonight. It’s turned into a birthday party for me, husband, and former manny. Avocadoes were just the excuse.

I put together a video on how to make the guacamole that we’ve always gotten rave reviews on. It’s kinda long, so if you don’t watch the whole thing I won’t take offense. Still, I think I need my own cooking show.

Warning: Just Another I Heart iPhone Post

I feel entirely too cliche writing a post about the iPhone. I mean, c’mon. How many of them do we need? But I wasn’t one to jump on the iPhone bandwagon until recently so I feel justified in my love and adoration. Whatever.

So I realized this past weekend at Type A Mom Con just how handy it was to have the iPhone with me. Here’s a list of how it helped me.

  1. As soon as I set out, I realized I’d forgotten my hand-written directions to a friend’s house.  Then a big duh moment when I realized I could just use my iPhone to tell me how to get there.
  2. I used Trapster, the app that tells you where speed traps are. I avoided a cop. Yay!
  3. Refusing to lug my gigantic Dell around all weekend (yet yearning for a Dell Mini), I was able to Tweet and check email from my phone. It wasn’t totally easy but compared to the T-Mobile Dash, it was a piece of cake. If only I could spell better using the touch keypad…
  4. I hate carrying things when I go drinking at conferences, so I kept forgetting my camera. No big. I can take photos with the iPhone and now have the Camera Zoom app so I can actually get closer.
  5. 2 layovers on the way home. Need I say more??

I’m still new to all the functionality (and having never owned an iPod, it’s taken some getting used to having music, movies and tv shows at my fingertips). I’m leaving for IZEAFest today and have already loaded some music and the first episode of this season’s Brothers and Sisters. I’m good.
