The Fun’s About to Begin

I’m on the edge of several weeks of busy. Fun busy, but busy just the same.

Max and I are headed to Wisconsin to visit my oldest and dearest BFF. We’ll eat curds (well, I will), drink wine (well, adults will) and ride jet skis. Good times will be had.

Then, home for a few days, before BlogHer, which I’m really excited about attending.

Day to rest, then mom comes for 10 days. Throw in Max’s birthday and party to the mix, and I’ll need a vacation after my vacation!

I am Woman. I Paddleboard.

I took paddleboarding lessons with a friend. I loved it. If you’re not familiar, it’s basically standing on a wide surfboard (in calm water) and paddling around. I want to surf, but am still too scared, so this was a nice introduction to the water.

morning Paddle Board

It’s also a great ab exercise! I thought I’d be more sore, since my abs essentially didn’t stop clenching the entire 2 hours.

Being out in the middle of the bay was surreal. I wasn’t swimming, and I wasn’t in a boat. At one point, I laid down on my board and just enjoyed.

I can’t wait to go back.

Why Aren’t There Gift Registries for Kids?

We have registries for weddings and babies. Why aren’t there ones for kids’ birthdays? My friends always ask what  Max wants. I usually know exactly what to tell them so that no one gets the same two gifts.

This year, I used my Out of Milk app on my phone and scanned the barcodes of all the gifts he’d like. I plan to adding it to his birthday evite.

I worried if that was too forward. Parents are weird; they say “you don’t have to get my kid a present!” But really? Don’t you? It’s not like the kid is going to be like “oh, I’d rather you donate the money to starving children.” He wants his Transformer. Now.

So maybe I’m rocking the boat, or maybe I’m starting a new trend. But I vote to incorporate kids’ birthday gift registries. Who’s with me??

I spouted off this post before I did research. There are a few places you can create generic registries. I’ve just never seen anyone do it!

Target has a generic list I’ll probably use. Here’s another.
