My Mama’s Gettin’ Married!

Ok, so she said I could share the news. My mom is getting married! It’s been a whirlwind romance, and now there’s a spring wedding in the works.

I’m thrilled that she’s found someone to share her life with. She always says she doesn’t need anyone to take care of her. But love isn’t about that, is it? It’s certainly nice to have someone to kill the spiders and look after you when you’re sick, but we could manage on our own. Instead, it’s about finding someone you enjoy so much, you want to see them every day.

(On that note, belated happy 13 years to me and the hub! Our anniversary was Valentine’s Day.)

So I’m flying back to Arkansas to share in the festivities, tiny though they are. She doesn’t want to make a big deal out of her wedding. She doesn’t realize we who love her do. After all, how many of your mother’s weddings do you get to attend? (Don’t answer that one, smart alecks)

PS: Groom-to-be, I hope you don’t mind being blogged about!

So…I Just Discovered…Shopping Online is Awesome!

Okay, I didn’t really just discover it. I’ve just been doing more of it. It seems like every day something’s arriving from Amazon or one of the vintage clothing sites I’m now obsessed with.

Speaking of vintage, yes. I have a problem. I love it all. I just bought this dress from Stop Staring for a special event I’m not allowed to disclose on my blog. But suffice it to say it involves vows and someone I’m close to.

I’m also into ModCloth right now. It’s like I just discovered clothes! What I like about shopping online is that I can find unique items that aren’t sold in every department store in the US. The drawback is fit: I really like trying things on, but luckily they have good return policies, so I haven’t had any issues.

Where do you shop online?

It’s the Little Things

Today Max had a Star Assembly where he got an award. This afternoon, he’s got a Poetry Café event. Going to school twice in one day wasn’t what the Hub and I wanted to do, but it means so much to Max, we don’t think twice.

The Hub traveled for a long time, so he missed many of Max’s events. Even though Max never vocalized disappointment, I know he felt it. Now when Papa shows up, I can see him beaming with pride.

It got me thinking about how the littlest things affect our kids. Like when we moved several times in a year. Max was a mess. He reverted, and it was hard to help him feel stable once we moved here. Throwing him in a French immersion program didn’t help with that. Now he’s well-adjusted and doing fine.

We have to think about how our actions as adults affect our kids. The ripple effect can sometimes go months or years beyond its source.
