For all you thirtysomethings like me, you’ll remember the old Alvin and the Chipmunks show (”AAAAALLLLVIIINNNNN!”). I love it when shows from our past come back in a new form for our kids to enjoy (like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Care Bears).

Alvin and  the Chipmunks has two movies out on DVD now. I saw the first one but have not yet seen the second, The Squeakquel. They’re really cute and take me back to my youth. I’m glad Max is into it, so we can share it together!

Anyway, they have this hilarious new interactive game out called Munk Yourself. You choose your chipmunk and accessories and then make them talk. I opted for Brittany with a baby fro and a weird mix of punk and schoolgirl clothing. You’ll see. Check it out.

It’s all bringing back memories of the show, and for me, the Christmas album. I played that thing to death. Ahh, memories.

SO if you haven’t watched the new movie, buy it now. It comes in DVD, BluRay or digital download. The DVD is a Double DVD that includes “The Squeak Along” disc bonus  that has more music and sing-alongs. It’s like getting an extra movie free!

A few months ago, I started itching. It wasn’t mosquitoes and it wasn’t fleas. After some research we deduced that it was bed bugs. Ug. When you read up on these creatures, you find they’re pretty disgusting.

There have been reported cases of epidemics of bed bugs at some major well-known hotels. Even they can’t keep them away.

So when I was approached by Orkin to write a sponsored post about bed bugs, I thought, why not? I knew so little about them, so I’m hoping to educate you, dear reader, so that if you wake up with tiny itchy bumps you’ll know what to do.

I sure didn’t know what to do. There’s no bug spray at Wal-Mart for bed bugs. Apparently there are some home remedies, but they’re not proven effective.

These little suckers spread like wildfire. It’s virtually impossible to get rid of them by washing sheets (believe me, I tried). What I didn’t know but know now is that calling your pest control professional (Orkin or otherwise) is the best way to get rid of them. I guess I was too embarrassed about the situation to call, so I suffered in silence.

Now that I think about it, since bedbugs travel in suitcases and the hub was traveling, I will blame him. He brought the plague! And naturally they did not bite him. I’m just so sweet.

Doesn’t the memory bring you goosebumps?? Well the Kmart Bluelight Specials are back, for one day only: July 25 (yes, tomorrow). Just like in the old days, they’ll have more than 40 Blue Light specials throughout the store. They’ve got jewelry, grills, patio stuff, etc all on sale. I need patio furniture and kids’ clothes, so I may have to drive to Little Rock to get it cheap at Kmart. They also have specials on Kmart.com (and who am I kidding? I’d rather shop online).

Since I’m furnishing an entire house and trying not to spend a lot on it, the idea of getting great deals at Kmart is awesome. I’ve been toying with the idea of decorating the back yard with paper lanterns and getting an umbrella for my $5 patio table, along with some chairs, so I’ll put them on my Kmart list!

I used to hate coffee. I mean, hate it. The way I hate beer now. But my bestest friend doctored some up with lots of milk and sugar, and well, I am a convert and have been for 10 years.

I’m not a coffee snob. I mean, I don’t like gas station coffee (unless it’s 7 11) but it’s pretty easy to impress me. Some of my favorite coffee is good and rich, maybe with some chicory thrown in (after all, ya’ll, I am Cajun).

So this post is a review of CoffeeforLess.com, a website that sells all kinds of coffee. Living now in Arkansas, I may be forced to order good coffee online as the selection is lower than what I’m used to.

The site sells ground coffee, coffee beans, hot chocolate, tea, and pods to fit different types of coffee makers (Sigh. I miss my Senseo coffee maker). I think the site is geared more toward offices who would be buying coffee in bulk, since I can’t justify spending $50 for 5 pounds of coffee at a time. They also sell paper goods and water coolers. Another clue it’s for offices. Given that I work out of my home and by myself, well, let’s just say I won’t be needing a water cooler.

They do have a Coffee of the Month Club, which would make a fantastic Christmas or Birthday present (for me. Hint Hint).

I like that shipping is just $5.95, and it’s free over $50 (which seems easy to spend here). All in all, it’s a good site, and if you either are a coffee monster or buying for an office, it’s worth checking out and saving some money.

Living in Orlando, someone was always pushing the Entertainment Book for their nonprofit. The first time, I bought one to be nice. But then when I actually saw the coupons inside, I was sold. Not only did it have $5 off at my favorite grocery store (many of these coupons), it also had coupons that made enjoying the many tourist attractions in Orlando more affordable. Coming to visit? I’ve got a coupon for mini golf. Want to go out to eat? I’ve got a coupon for that.

I carried the book in my car (after unsuccessfully leaving it at home, where it did no good) so that I could pull it out when we reached our destination. Usually I found a coupon to comply.

So right now they have a deal that if you reserve the 2010 copy (available August 12) you get the 2009 book free. And the coupons are good for another 3 or 4 months, if I remember correctly.

In writing this post, I thought “Yea, but I bet they won’t have a book for where I am, in BFE Arkansas.” Au contraire. Their Little Rock area book has a ton of Hot Springs restaurants and attractions, so as soon as I’m done posting this I am getting my books! I hope you’ll get them too. They pay for themselves with just a few coupons, so what do you have to lose?

I love doing reviews on products that introduce me to new things. Today it’s Mega Brand Toys. They make those Mega Bloks, which are like Legos but fatter. What I didn’t know is they actually have a lot more than just Bloks! They also house RoseArt, Magnext and Mega Puzzles.

So for this post I’m supposed to talk about the toy my son would love most. That’s really hard! What I love is they have toys with all of his favorite characters, like Diego, Playhouse Disney, and Cars. Ooh, and Marvel.

So what would his favorite be, if I actually allowed him to browse this website with my credit card? I would say one from the Marvel line, but I’m really groaning at how he’s starting to play with big boy “yucky” toys with too many parts, so I’m going to stick to something sweet:

Mickey’s Clubhouse

Ever since we saw Playhouse Disney Live at Hollywood Studios, Max has been into Mickey Mouse Playhouse. And I love it! (Yes, yes, judge me for picking toys I would play with).

I think it’s cute how it looks like Mickey’s playhouse and has a slide. The 48 pieces thing I’m not too excited about. Many pieces is not something to boast about, people. Not to a parent, anyway. Max isn’t yet really creative in building his own toys from scratch, so I like that there’s a plan in how things put together. It looks pretty easy to use.
